I know it sounds weird, but I love my airport. And at my house it is a fun trip every time we go, so I thought I would write about it.

The Augusta Regional Airport is serviced by three airlines – Delta, US Air and American. Love this. The airport got a fantastic face lift in 2008. So it really is a new airport, but still feels like a great hometown airport.

In my house it is an adventure because this is where we get to see big planes and pick up Gigi (my mom) and YaYa (my sister) when they visit from Florida and New Jersey. Easy connections and good flight schedules make Augusta an easy trip for them. Yes – this is a picture of my kids in pajamas at the airport. But even if it is past bedtime, there is really nothing that will keep them from going to the airport.

Another thing I love about my airport is the fabulous Augusta Visitor Information Center, right in the heart of baggage claim. Here you can pick up a visitor guide, calendar of events or map. And check it out…You can have your picture taken in front of a replica of the Augusta National Golf Club’s 13th Hole. Awesome!

So don’t think I am weird because I want to write about my Augusta Regional Airport. Think I am weird because we have an airport song we sign every time we go. “Going to the airport, airport.. Going to the airport, airport…..”

It’s hard to believe that October is finally here! Thankfully, it is bringing very pleasant weather to the Garden City. While you are visiting downtown, you should stop by the Augusta Visitor Center, located inside the lobby of the Augusta Museum of History.  During the month of October the ‘Play Augusta’ t-shirt is on sale for 20% off.  What better way to show off your pride in Augusta, than to sport one of these tees?  This is just one of the Augusta souvenirs that the Visitor Center has to offer, along with many different products made in Georgia, like pecan brittle and muscadine cider. You can also find specialties by Augusta’s own Very Vera, who was recently featured on Throwdown with Bobby Flay.

Throughout the rest of the year, there will also be other items on sale, including peach jam and Augusta canvas tote bags, which are both great ideas for the upcoming holiday season. You can also find a wealth of information on things to do and where to shop and dine in Augusta!

I saw Augusta through my dad’s eyes!  He flew in from New York City and I picked him up from the Augusta Regional Airport.  He was really impressed because the last time he was here it was the old airport (Augusta’s airport was recently renovated).  In his words we “moved up in the world”!  I guess I took the airport for granted since I do not visit very often.

Also, I knew Augustan’s were friendly because it was one of the things that sold me on Augusta when I moved here back in 1995. The attendants at the airport were all very friendly and helpful.  We were out of there in no time.  His bags came out immediately – no problem.  When we got to the car and went to leave the attendant in the booth was very pleasant – “Have a wonderful visit to Augusta” she said.

Check out the Augusta Regional Airport website for information about flights.
