One of my favorite lunch spots in downtown Augusta is the Mellow Mushroom! Not only do they have the best pizza in town in my opinion, they offer great service and a quick lunch menu.

I usually get the slice and salad offered on their lunch menu.  This is the best of both worlds-a treat and something healthy. It’s one of the best cheap, quick lunches in town! I also enjoy the garlic pretzels with marinara sauce. They come straight to your table warm from the oven and drizzled with a little bit of Parmesan and butter, and they’re so good!

Whether you have little time, or as much time as you want, make sure to pay Mellow Mushroom a visit! Enjoy!!

If you are in Augusta and really hungry, I recommend the Carolina Ale House. The Carolina Ale House  is a regional restaurant based out of North Carolina. Makes Sense. It is a family-friendly sports themed restaurant. It does have a large menu that goes beyond the typical sports bar.

We went the other day with the kids and it was a great Saturday diversion and some wonderful food. We sat outside and watched SEC football. I love outdoor dining in Augusta in the fall, but I digress.

I ordered the Carolina Ale House Burger. A signature dish with smoky bacon, American cheese, ale house onion strings and Papa Lou’s secret sauce. Doesn’t it look fantastic? Please see next picture to see how much I liked it.

They have a great kids’ menu. William highly recommends the corn dog and applesauce.

My husband recommends the ribs and any burger on the menu. I think next time I will try Sweet Mountain BBQ Burger and maybe the house Mud Pie.

I recently ate at the Rooster’s Beak with a group of people who were visiting Augusta from various places in the Southeast.  They were intrigued by the different taco options, which Rooster’s Beak is known for, and pleased with the wide variety of cocktails and beer selections.  They have over 30 specialty beers, and some standard favorites for those who aren’t as adventurous.

We started off with an appetizer of chips and three different salsas – fresh, roasted and green.  They were all delicious, but the green salsa had a little something different that gave it great flavor.

For our meals my group all went with tacos.  The favorite at my table was the Veggie which has roasted cauliflower, roasted potatoes, roasted green peppers and pumpkin seed pesto.  I ventured into the specials territory though, and was not disappointed.  My sashimi grade tuna, served on a bed of green tea soba noodles and topped with crab meat and a white curry sauce, was out of this world.  And it was presented beautifully.

Not only does the Rooster’s Beak have great beer, great tacos and great specials, they also have fantastic homemade desserts.  Ice cream options for us that night were Cheez-It, Blueberry Bacon and Smoked Plum, in addition to some more traditional options.  We tried them all and, although they may not sound it, they were good!

One of our guests tried the wine cake, complete with grape glaze and ice cream on top. It was delicious!

Be sure to check out Rooster’s Beak sometime soon.  They are open Tuesday – Saturday for lunch and dinner.  Find out more at www.feedyourbeak.com.

One of my favorite places to venture to on my lunch break with co-workers is Nacho Mama’s, located in downtown Augusta. If you find yourself downtown and hungry make sure to find your way to this atypical Mexican eatery for either lunch or dinner. What establishes Nacho Mama’s from its competitors are their large serving sizes, fresh and delicious ingredients, and its prime location to downtown shopping and attractions.

Nacho Mama’s menu looks much like a menu should look for a typical Mexican dining establishment. The hunger-stricken guest can find nachos, burritos, hard and soft shell tacos, quesadillas and taco salads. But, each dish is larger than one would expect and has an authentic taste unlike anything I have ever tasted. My favorite is the chicken and black bean taco, loaded with fresh, all white meat chicken, black beans, Monterey-jack cheese, lettuce and pico. Also, add an order of the nacho cheese and the Nacho Mama’s house salsa, mango habanero salsa, which makes the perfect appetizer while you are waiting for your taco, burrito, etc. to be prepared fresh to order.

There is plenty of seating upstairs or downstairs and they are happy to accommodate larger parties of families, friends, co-workers, whomever. They offer a great selection of beer, both domestic and imports. Drop by for happy hour daily from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. They also make an excellent top shelf margarita and also serve several well drinks.

After you are nice and full, take a stroll down Broad Street and enjoy the authentic shops that can only be found in Downtown Augusta. Most are open later in the evening, especially during First Fridays.
