I just have one word to describe my elegant dinner at Frog Hollow Tavern in downtown Augusta, Georgia – Go.

I mean really you should go. Leave the kids at home, ask for Jeff as your server, order the Sweet Tea Martini, start with the mussels, order the Pot Roast for entrée, and crème Brule for dessert. Go.

Since we had a larger group for supper, we also got to try a little bit of everyone else’s entrees and appetizers, including this delicious sausage sampler…

And this chicken with grits and greens…

And this delicious steak with homemade steak frites!

Okay maybe two words to describe Frog Hollow Tavern – Go, now.

My husband and I decided to have a quite Christmas dinner alone, even if it was two days before Christmas. We have four families so Christmas can be a little crazy (yes, just like the movie Four Christmases!). One of our favorite restaurants is Calvert’s in Surrey Center. Usually we reserve fine dining experiences like those found at Calvert’s for special occasions, but we discovered they have a Sunset Dinner for Two special every night from 5:00-6:30 p.m. The special includes a salad, an entrée, and a dessert for both people! The cost is only $28.95! You just can’t beat that, especially because the food is delicious! One of the great things about the special is that you get to try something that is not on the menu. I had the seafood crepes (which were amazing) and my husband had the London broil (it melted in your mouth it was so tender). Then, for dessert we both had a flourless chocolate cake. It was delicious! Our waiter was so nice, she asked us about our Christmas plans and told us all about her daughter’s Christmas present this year, a puppy! We are big dog lovers so we enjoyed talking with her. Overall, the experience at Calvert’s is like no other. The restaurant has dim lighting with a candle on every table so it is a very romantic atmosphere. We are looking forward to returning soon!
